Western Sydney’s new international airport has secured another major airline partner — and this one will be especially welcome news for local families, holidaymakers, businesses and the region’s large Vietnamese community.
Vietjet Air has announced it will begin flying from Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport to Ho Chi Minh City from January 2027, giving Western Sydney residents direct access to one of Southeast Asia’s most exciting destinations from their own 24-hour airport.
The airline’s Thai joint venture, Vietjet Thailand, also plans to launch services between Western Sydney and Bangkok from November 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.
For a region that has waited decades for its own international gateway, this is more than another route announcement. It is a sign that Western Sydney International is quickly becoming a serious player in global aviation — and that Western Sydney residents will no longer need to rely solely on airports across town to reach the world.
Direct Flights From Western Sydney to Ho Chi Minh City
From Sunday 10 January 2027, Vietjet will operate two weekly flights between Western Sydney International Airport and Ho Chi Minh City.
The services will run every:
- Sunday
- Wednesday
Flights will arrive at WSI at 10am and depart for Ho Chi Minh City at 12.05pm.
From March 2027, Vietjet will increase the route to three weekly services, giving travellers even more choice and flexibility.
The flights will be operated using Vietjet’s Airbus A330 aircraft, offering 377 seats per flight.
Tickets for the January services are already available online, with one-way fares starting from AUD $299.

Bangkok Flights Planned From November 2027
In another major boost for Western Sydney travellers, Vietjet Thailand plans to operate four weekly services between Western Sydney International Airport and Bangkok from November 2027.
The Bangkok route remains subject to regulatory approvals, with exact flight times to be confirmed closer to launch.
If approved, this will give Western Sydney locals direct access to one of Asia’s most visited cities — a gateway to Thailand’s beaches, food, culture, shopping and onward connections across the region.
A Big Win for Western Sydney’s Vietnamese Community
The Ho Chi Minh City route is likely to be one of the most meaningful international connections for Western Sydney.
Western Sydney is home to more than half of Greater Sydney’s Vietnamese population, with more than 70,000 Vietnamese residents living across the region. For many families, the new service will make visiting friends and relatives in Vietnam simpler, faster and more convenient.
WSI CEO Simon Hickey said Vietnam is already a hugely popular destination for Australian travellers, with more than half a million people travelling between New South Wales and Vietnam in 2025 alone.
He said the new Vietjet services would provide Western Sydney communities with greater choice, flexibility and global connectivity.
For suburbs across Liverpool, Fairfield, Cabramatta, Canley Vale, Bankstown, Bonnyrigg, St Johns Park, Mount Pritchard and beyond, the ability to fly to Vietnam from Western Sydney’s own airport will be a major lifestyle and convenience upgrade.
A 24-Hour Airport With Easier Local Access
One of the major advantages of Western Sydney International Airport is that it will operate as a 24-hour global gateway.
The recently unveiled toll-free M12 motorway is also expected to make access easier for many Western Sydney communities, linking travellers directly to the airport precinct.
For families who currently factor in long drives across Sydney, congestion, tolls, parking and airport transfer times, the ability to depart from WSI could change the travel experience significantly.
Instead of crossing the city, many Western Sydney residents will soon be able to start their international journey much closer to home.

Government Support Through the Take-Off Fund
The Ho Chi Minh City flights are supported by the Western Sydney International Take-Off Fund, a $16 million partnership between the NSW Government and WSI.
The fund is designed to encourage airlines to invest in Western Sydney and help NSW remain competitive in the global race for aviation routes, visitors and trade opportunities.
Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said Vietjet becoming WSI’s newest airline partner shows the momentum building at Sydney’s newest airport.
With passenger flights due to begin from Sunday 25 October 2026, the airport is now in its final phase of testing, fit-out and preparation.
NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper said the new Vietnam connection would support tourism, businesses and jobs across Western Sydney.
Why This Matters for Local Jobs, Tourism and Business
The arrival of Vietjet at Western Sydney International is not just good news for travellers. It also supports broader economic growth across the region.
Direct international air links can help drive:
- Tourism into Western Sydney and NSW
- Local hospitality and accommodation demand
- Jobs in aviation, logistics, transport and tourism
- Trade and investment between Australia and Vietnam
- More convenient travel for small businesses and families
- Greater global visibility for Western Sydney
Vietjet CEO Nguyen Thanh Son said the new route would strengthen connectivity between Vietnam and Australia while boosting tourism, trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges.
He said the service would also provide passengers with more convenient, high-quality and affordable travel options.
WSI’s Momentum Is Building
Western Sydney International Airport has already commenced cargo operations, which began on 27 July 2026.
Passenger services are scheduled to begin from Sunday 25 October 2026.
As Australia’s first major international greenfield airport development in more than 50 years, WSI is expected to reshape travel for Greater Sydney — particularly for the growing communities of Western Sydney that have long needed better access to global connections.
The airport’s 24-hour operations, new terminal, freight capacity and growing airline partnerships are positioning it as a major long-term economic engine for the region.
A New Era of Travel for Western Sydney
For Western Sydney families planning trips to Vietnam, young travellers looking for affordable Southeast Asian holidays, businesses building stronger links with Asia, and local communities wanting easier access to loved ones overseas, Vietjet’s arrival is a major milestone.
From January 2027, Western Sydney residents will be able to fly directly from their new international airport to Ho Chi Minh City.
By late 2027, Bangkok may also be added to the departure board.
After years of anticipation, Western Sydney International is no longer just a future promise. It is becoming a real gateway to the world — and for local communities, that means more choice, more convenience and more opportunity.
